Guess What?

Yup - that's our mud and lumber! This is the reason I've not posted in a week. After some long meetings, tons of phone calls, lots of prayer and even walking away once, we signed a contract Friday to build our new house! We have lived in our current house for 7 years and it has served us well, but, the time has come to move on...15 minutes away. Sam starts Kindergarten (sniff, sniff, sob, sob) next year and we wanted to get him into a better school district. We also really wanted to get into a neighborhood that has more kids and more of a community feel to it. This new neighborhood has 10 parks throughout and is full of families with kids. The new house isn't so bad either! It's a little bigger than our house now, with 4 bedrooms, a bonus, and a wonderful back yard that backs up to woods. It also has room to grow with an unfinished bonus room that we can finish out into another bedroom or something else down the road.

We are putting this house on the market in 4 weeks, so we are busy getting it ready to sell. We are hoping to sell it and close on the new house in the fall sometime. I'm overwhelmed with everything we have to do these next few months. I'll certainly be updating through out the whole process.

Any tips out there on how to survive building and selling a house?

Woo-hoo! So excited about the new house, can't wait to see it! As far as tips go, we checked on our house every few days and were SO glad we did. We were able to make sure everything was done just the way we wanted it, and also catch a couple of mistakes before it was too late! I also looked through a bunch of house magazines to pick the cabinets, countertops, flooring, and that really helped me visualize everything (you know, whether I wanted a more warm, dark kitchen look or a lighter one, for example). Plus my amazing sister-in-law gave me excellent advice on what looked best. :)

Other than that, have FUN. Building a house can be stressful, so just decide ahead of time that this is a huge blessing and you are going to enjoy it and love it no matter what! Stressing out just isn't worth it!

How crazy is that!! We're doing the exact same thing right now. That's why I never post anymore it seems. With my little free time, I'm ALWAYS cleaning the house. That's a bit of a pain with little ones I will say. We've made so many changes on our new house that they haven't broken ground just yet, but that will be in a week or two. Our other house has been on the market about a month and we don't think it will be long before it's sold. YIKES!

I agree with Laura, I cut lots of pics from magazines to get a general idea of what we liked first. We also toured the design gallery before our meeting to pick out the stuff so we could go home and think about it all for a few days. Good luck!! It's very exciting!!!

It is very stressful building, but also so much fun!!! You can add so many of your own special touches to it!! I'll pray yours sells quicker than ours (going on 7 months now). Can wait to see all of the updates!!! YEA!!!! :)
